Systemic Sustainability: 1.1 Curriculum and Instruction

7th Grade: What impacts water quality of the Chesapeake Bay?

PictureIn 2016, students use skim nets at CBES.
At SPMS, 7th grade students are challenged to look at their world and themselves in a new light.  They study the natural world and consider the impact of human population on the quality of the environment.  Suddenly, activities that they may have taken for granted, such as boating on Severn River, are seen through new lenses.

They now have the knowledge to look at the water and the riverbank and observe the quality, notice pollution, and reflect on the ramifications.  Color and visibility of the water mean different things to these budding scientists.  They see the privilege and responsibility as they strive to understand the impact and solutions toward reducing their own ecological footprints.
